Position: Senior Corporate Lawyer
Reports to: Head of Corporate Affairs
Location: South Africa, Cape Town
Role Objective
A rapidly growing Online betting company are looking for a Senior Corporate Lawyer to join the team to ensure full legal compliance and regulatory readiness for the company and supporting its growth across the African continent.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Governance & Compliance:
- Keep company records updated and ensure all filings with provincial boards are accurate and timely.
Licensing & Regulatory Approvals:
- Oversee the end-to-end process for obtaining and renewing gambling licenses and coordinate with the MLRO on regulatory conditions.
Contract Management:
- Draft and negotiate contracts related to affiliates, data providers, sponsorships, and white-label partnerships; ensure compliance with gambling laws and consumer protection regulations.
Finance & Tax Compliance:
- Advise on South African Reserve Bank (SARB) approvals for international financial movements
Mergers & Expansion Projects:
- Lead legal due diligence for acquisitions and new market entries in Africa; manage transaction processes and post-deal integration.
Dispute Resolution:
- Handle legal disputes with vendors, customers, and regulators; manage external counsel under cost-controlled arrangements.
Policy Development & Training:
- Develop governance policies, signing authority frameworks, and induction programs for directors; deliver compliance training to local leadership annually.
Candidate Profile
- Qualified attorney with 8+ years of experience in corporate or commercial law within betting, fintech, or similarly regulated industries.
- Deep understanding of gambling legislation, provincial regulatory frameworks, and SARB exchange control rules.
- Proficient in English; Afrikaans or another South African language is a strong advantage.
