A Pentasia client is planning serious expansion into global regulated markets, including Brazil. Our client intends to take the regulated route and will be operating as a regulated business in Brazil. As part of this journey, they are looking to hire several key positions, one being a Director of Licensing & Compliance.

If you like the idea of building something from the beginning, building out market presence and scaling an international business in Brazil, then this could be the right opening for you. This role would suit someone who is able to deal with the uncertainties of a new business, rather than structure and established processes.

Experience:

8+ years in gaming regulation, including 5+ years in a senior-leadership capacity, with significant experience in the Brazilian market.

Qualification:

Licensed lawyer in Brazil.

Role Summary:

Lead the company’s licensing and compliance function specifically for the Brazilian market. Own regulatory strategy, secure new licenses, protect existing approvals, and ensure audit-ready operations across all relevant jurisdictions within Brazil. Report directly to the executive team and act as primary liaison with Brazilian regulators, gaming laboratories, and industry bodies.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Set and execute licensing strategy for the Brazilian market; secure, renew, or expand all gaming licenses in Brazil.
  • Own the regulatory roadmap for Brazil: track legislative changes, assess risk, and brief executives on impact and mitigation within the Brazilian context.
  • Lead audits within Brazilian jurisdictions; ensure zero-finding outcomes and timely remediation.
  • Direct regulator relations in Brazil: negotiate license conditions, respond to enquiries, and represent the company in hearings with Brazilian authorities.
  • Oversee technical certification with gaming labs for Brazilian market requirements; sign off on system releases and change controls.
  • Design and enforce company-wide policies (AML, KYC, RG, data, advertising) specifically tailored to Brazilian legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing compliance team focused on Brazil; set KPIs, coach managers, and control headcount and budget.
  • Provide board-level reporting on compliance posture, emerging risks, and corrective actions relevant to Brazil.
  • Deliver internal training on regulatory obligations for product, operations, and marketing staff operating in Brazil.

Requirements:

  • Licensed lawyer in Brazil with 8+ years dedicated to gaming licensing/compliance, with a strong focus on the Brazilian market.
  • 5+ years leading teams and budgets in a regulated gaming environment, with proven experience in Brazil.
  • Demonstrated success securing licenses and passing regulator audits within Brazil.
  • Deep knowledge of Brazilian gaming technical standards, AML/CTF rules, responsible-gaming frameworks, and data-protection laws (e.g., LGPD).
  • Proven ability to influence senior regulators and industry associations in Brazil.
  • Clear, concise communicator; fluent Portuguese mandatory, fluent English an asset.
