Building a new agile team of mobile software and test engineers in Kent, the role holder is responsible for the development of mobile payments applications in accordance with the company’s development schedule, ensuring that the agreed project milestones and delivery dates are accomplished. The lead developer will be instrumental in the developing the Group’s client payment aspirations into a working solution, through design, and implementation of software applications operating on various hardware and operating platforms. The role holder will provide a clear and structured interface between the team and Head of Development. 


  • Act as  the lead  for  Android (and potentially iOS)  application development  projects, ensuring that quality is driven throughout the team and the defined feature is delivered to schedule;
  • Responsible for ensuring that features are designed  and  aligned to the target environment  and in accordance with company security and software development policies;
  • Responsible for mentoring and providing guidance for both software engineers and test engineers working within the Mobile Development team;
  • Creating and maintaining individual team members goals and training objectives; Responsible for creating and maintain coding best practices and principles utilised by the  Mobile Development team;


  • Maintaining strong team ethos ensuring processes are adhered and adapted where required;
  • Motivating, energising and mentoring the Mobile Development team.
  • Ensuring that clear focus is maintained on ‘right first time’, avoiding over-engineered solutions;
  • Ensuring that the team work to  a  satisfactory  definition in line with business deliverables  and  to a high-quality standard;
  • Provide support to the Security department in audit and review activities in-line with P2PE and PCI assessments;
  • Verify implementations adhere to secure coding and best practices;
  • Participate  in  planning,  reviews,  retrospectives,  and  estimations  with  the  agile  team,  providing output to Head of Development and the Product team;
  • Provide  clear  and  concise  solution  improvements  with  detailed  analysis  around  application technical debt;
  • Embracing  new  technologies  and  development  techniques  to  help  improve  solution  quality, security, performance and stability;
  • Performing regular reviews and 1-2-1’s with team members.



  • Degree level education to 2:1 or above in Computer Science or other IT related discipline
  • Minimum 5+ Years’ experience developing native applications for Android in Java and/or Kotlin
  • A  test-first  development  mentality  using  TDD  and  knowledge  of  unit,  UI  testing,  and  testing pyramids
  • Deep understanding of the Android SDK
  • Demonstrable understanding of S.O.L.I.D. principles and Object-Oriented patterns.
  • Knowledge of Clean Architecture patterns such as MVVM, MVP etc.
  • Able to provide examples of clean, self-documenting, readable code.
  • Version Control using GIT.
  • Experience of Agile software delivery methods and a strong understanding of agile principles and mindset

  • Knowledge of interfacing through SOAP/REST/JSON/XML protocols;
  • Knowledge of interfacing through APACS/ISO8583 financial protocols;
  • Good experience of working with embedded payment terminals;
  • iOS Development experience

The role will be based in the Kent office; however, the need may arise to travel and visit other office locations within the UK. Some projects meetings may also be held at customer sites.

Standard office working hours are 9:00 to 17:30 Monday to Friday. This role is contracted to 37.5 hours per week. Flexible working with core hours.
