The role

The Emerging Payments Association (EPA) is a commercial membership association of payments industry influencers. It runs more than 70 events each year, delivers eight projects to drive change, helps to connect the ecosystem, encourages innovation and profitable business growth. The EPA’s vision is for the UK to be the global hotspot for payments innovation.

To support its continued growth, the EPA is now looking for a Business Development Executive to join the team. This is a broad role focused on securing membership sales and events sponsorship for our fast-growing business in the emerging payments industry, based in London Bridge, London.

Working closely with, and reporting to, the Commercial Director, the Business Development Executive will be responsible for selling membership of the EPA to companies in the banking, payments, FinTech and PayTech sectors. At the same time, they will be responsible for developing sponsorship opportunities and securing sponsors for the companies' successful portfolio of conferences and events. The candidate will secure profitable sponsorships through value-adding sponsorship packages with both established clients and new prospects.

The successful candidate will have at least two years’ experience in association membership, event or conference sponsorship sales gained within a financial or technology environment. They will be self-motivated, target-oriented, ready to leap straight in and will be an effective team player. The role will require an intelligent, insight-led sales approach to the levels of membership and the suite of sponsorship opportunities, considering the potential to cross-sell between products.

  • Willingness to understand the product offering and enthuse about the emerging payments business
  • Ability to generate leads, establish needs, develop and present proposals, negotiate and close sales
  • Enthusiasm for achieving and exceeding revenue targets
  • Proactive and informed approach to new business opportunities
  • Ability to adhere to a defined sales process and agreed sales administration
  • Collaborative approach to management of existing relationships
  • Ability to work closely with events, marketing and sales colleagues
  • Experience in reporting through a CRM reporting tool

Business Development Manager - requirements

To be considered for the position, it is essential that the candidate has:

  • Exceptional track record of events sponsorship and/or membership sales
  • At least two years’ experience of sales or business development in events or publishing in the financial services or technology industry
  • Articulate, driven and professional approach, with the ability to communicate, pitch comfortably and connect with senior clients and prospects
  • Excellent written communication and the ability to write creative commercial benefit-led proposals
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Self-motivated and target-oriented approach
  • If not a British national, applicants should already hold the relevant work permit
