The Sport Management Department in the AACSB accredited Pompea College of Business at the University of New Haven invites applications for a Non-Tenure Track position at the instructor level in esports management beginning in fall 2023. The University of New Haven launched both an undergraduate degree in esports and gaming and a graduate program in esports business two years ago. The University of New Haven is an active member in NACE with teams competing in multiple titles and genres.
This position includes both teaching and service expectations along with a responsibility to revise BS in Esports and Gaming degree to better align with market demand, advise esports students, teach esports business and/or sport management classes, and develop an advisory board for the esports programs. The successful candidate for this position will hold a joint appointment with the Intrerdisciplinary Incubator and work closely with other gaming coordinators across the university to create a vibrant gaming ecosystem. The position can be tailored and adapted to match the strengths of the right candidate with ability to cover the majority of the responsibilities listed above.

Candidates must have completed a terminal degree in sport management, computer sciences, game development, law, or a related field, or a master’s degree with a minimum of five years of relevant industry experience by the date of appointment. Strong applicants will have an ability to develop and teach a variety of esports business courses and have a proficiency in Overwatch, League of Legends, Halo, Valorant, Rocket League, Call of Duty, and similar genres. Additionally, strong applicants will have an established network of professionals from the esports and gaming community to include publishers, developers, esports institutions / leagues, esport event organizers, and professional esports athletes.
Candidates should have strong communication skills, a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, and a student orientation. Ideal candidates should demonstrate applied teaching experience and the ability to teach effectively in face-to-face, hybrid, and online environments. All faculty members are expected to engage in student-focused activities such as advising and career mentoring. Impactful, applied-research is valued highly within both the department and the college.
